On Saturday 2nd April 2011, SKK in association with the Aussie Bar hosted a World Cup Final party with the live match and commentary broadcast on all screens. 

Doors opened at 11.30am and as the crowd wandered in the bar was half full by the first delivery at 12pm . Bejay, manager of the Aussie Bar, was encouraging the customers with bar discounts early in the match, encouraging drinkers to order before the first wicket fell and then later for the first boundary as Sri Lanka's start stifled the hype for the event. 

The highly criticised "doubles" raffle (must have been a poor crop of grapes this year), eventually went unclaimed, despite a few getting one of the first six-hitters or one of the first-wicket takers in each innings - and raised a little money for the event.  During the innings break, Madhu Bhandari, brought a selection of lovely Nepalese curries and naan courtesy of Swagatam restaurant, which was eagerly lapped up by the bumper crowd as Sri Lanka bashed their way to a competitive total in the last 5 overs.

In the second innings the Aussie was heaving!  The atmosphere was as thick as Stevie's understanding of the "doubles" raffle and the dominant Indian supporters were nervy as they were excitable. Pete, our former SKK barman at the Aussie, wound up the crowd with enough good -natured sledging (that could secure him another ban from the FCA, if he came back to play). Despite a few nervous wobbles against Malinga, India clawed their way with each stunning cut shot, stolen single, and wonderful determination. Ghambir and Dhoni's innings were superb, and the Aussie Bar nearly shook off its foundations when Dhoni launched a massive 6 to claim the World Cup for INDIA!

All in all it was a great social event for SKK. Thanks to all the guys who came down to watch and support the event, even some SKK drifters who some thought were deceased or had mysterously disappeared from the face of the Earth ventured in to the Aussie.
