SM40 SKK touch-up Helsinki in return leg

Helsinki CC - 104 all out in 17th over, were defeated by SKK - 108-2 in 17th over.

An impressive 8 wicket victory was setup by a strong bowling and fielding display by SKK with Kajan's four wickets in a man of the match display tearing through the Helsinki middle-order. Helsinki could barely string a partnership together as wickets tumbled continually with all 6 SKK bowlers picking up at least one wicket. Our catching was excellent including a sharp return catch by Kajan and a brilliant chest thumping one from Selvaa. Ted and Scamans then got SKK off to a flyer smacking 31 from the first 3 overs before both were run out unnecessarily. A dominant batting performance from October ably accompanied by Tatu settled the result.  (K. Chadresekeran 4 wickets, J. October 44 n.o. & J. Scamans 25) in a 20 overs rain-reduced match.

SM40 Game 2 vs Espoo CC @ Ruskeasuo
SKK 256-9 (40 overs) lost to Espoo 260-7 (34.1 overs)

Following a disastrous collapse against Helsinki the week before SKK put in a much stronger batting effort in their first innings with both  Karl "Ted" Fitzpatrick (67 off 71 balls) and Shakil Islam (58 off 43 balls) hitting half- centuries.  However ill-disciplined bowling and fielding from SKK and a failure to capitalise on several catching chances allowed Espoo's Abbas to smash a ton to hand Espoo a comfortable victory.  Mind you it was bloody freezing as well.

Helsinki give SKK a touch-up in SM40 opener!

                                Saturday 7th May 2011
SM40 Game 1 vs Helsinki CC @ Ruskeasuo
SKK all out 102 (25.1 overs), lost to Helsinki 106 (25.3 overs)

Not that we complain (that much... well, maybe a bit), but... and I use "but" advisedly here,... BUT! playing on the winter-ice saturated soft-soiled gravel Ruskeasuo is a nightmare for batsmen (even good ones) and especially if you've been sent into bat on it in the first game of the season.  That said, Helsinki had to bat on the flat mat too and rolled SKK in as much time as the mat at 4pm and even quicker than the filo pastries that Lloyd had prepared earlier and <insert other wittier simile for "rolling" here>...

                                More soon.

SKK squander chances in Turku Indoor bash

                                Picture
Having the full SKK squad finally stumble into the Impivaara Indoor Sports Hall fifteen minutes prior to the first match after a couple of hours drive to Turku was not this captain's idealised preparation in order to stamp our presence in the first tournament of 2011. In fact, after the first eight balls of our innings it was clear that truly did resemble the well-described underdone Hesburger breakfasts from two hours earlier in the rush to Turku, as SKK went down three wickets without a run off the bat!

Brew IX - Beer Team- Friendly & Touring Team

Are a friendly team containing some current and previous SKK players as well as a sprinkling of players from most of the other main clubs in Finland.

SKK's Steve Law would like you to know that: "We are always looking for the sick, lame and lazy for tours...". We are bunch of older gents who enjoy the odd friendly, summer tour trip and associated socials. As a guiding principle we organize and manage our team in order to provide playing and socialising opportunities for more mature cricketers. We play cricket first and foremost to have fun, we always play in the true spirit of the game. Of course we aim to field competitive teams but never at the expense of the higher principles outlined above. Success on the field is desirable, sought after, and gives purpose to competition, but winning is not everything.

                                Quote of the Week

"I bat better when I don't have to think"
Jon Lawless reassuring everyone of his concentration levels after smacking 10 off 3 at the death versus Espoo.

                                Team Hit of the Week

Jon Lawless for trying to catch (or at least get in the way of) a hand-amputating return smash. After waiting 20 overs in the field to bowl he lasted 4 balls (and saved four runs.
